Damaged rechargeable batteries and batteries are considered hazardous goods during transport and therefore pose a particular challenge. DENIOS offers suitable transport boxes and battery storage boxes with UN approval made of metal and plastic.
Here you will find regulations for the transport of lithium-ion batteries and the special requirements for battery transport boxes and battery fire protection boxes. We explain the advantages of PyroBubbles® as a filling material and how they contribute to preventing fires. We also describe the dangers of handling lithium-ion batteries and the measures for safe storage.
Due to the high risk of fire and explosion, lithium-ion batteries or lithium-ion rechargeable batteries are considered dangerous goods under international transport law and are subject to the regulations for the transport of dangerous goods. Depending on the transport route, the rules for air freight, sea freight or road transport apply. A distinction is also made as to whether only the batteries, the batteries separate from the device or the batteries installed in the end device are to be transported. In any case, it must be ensured that the batteries cannot slip during transport.
Our fireproof box for rechargeable batteries is also suitable for damaged or unsafe-to-transport batteries and rechargeable batteries that are to be disposed of.
Since 2009, retailers, manufacturers and waste disposal organisations have been obliged to take back empty or no longer required batteries. Consumers are also obliged to return them. The above-mentioned regulations apply to the transport of batteries.
Lithium-ion batteries can be metallurgically recycled. Valuable materials such as cobalt, nickel and copper are recovered in the process. Overall, almost 100% of the components of a lithium battery can be recycled if recycled properly.
PyroBubbles® are granules with a grain size of 0.5 - 5 mm, consisting mainly of silicon dioxide. They are non-flammable, electrically insulating and have low thermal conductivity. This makes PyroBubbles® the ideal filling material for transport and storage boxes for lithium-ion batteries.
As a tested extinguishing agent, they are particularly suitable for fighting liquid fires and ensure that the battery storage box is fireproof. Their melting point is 900 °C, after which they form a closed layer around the source of the fire. They also provide reliable protection against chain reactions (thermal runaway).
Our lithium-ion battery safety box is filled with PyroBubbles® as standard. They can be taken back after use and largely recycled. In addition to transporting batteries, they can also be used for the permanent insulation of flammable substances or wherever flammable materials are present.
The battery transport boxes and battery fire protection boxes from DENIOS offer safe and legally compliant solutions for the transport and storage of intact or damaged batteries. Thanks to PyroBubbles® as a filling agent, they enable effective firefighting and also protect against chain reactions.
